During my sophomore year at the University of Colorado, I took Dr. Medeiros’s Genetics class, and it was then I knew I wanted to study gene regulation in college! Since joining the Medeiros lab and working with PhD candidate Lindsey Ray, I have been researching the evolution of gene regulatory networks in lamprey and zebrafish. I am writing my honors thesis on the enhancers activated by AP-2 and its paralogs during the development of neural crest cells in lamprey. Ever since, my passion for learning more about genetics has continued to grow. I will graduate in Spring 2022 with a major in EBIO and a minor in Computational Biology, a brand-new minor in association with the BioFrontiers Institute that applies mathematics, computer science, and data science and statistics to studying biology. After I graduate, I plan to continue my research in developmental biology and genetics while pursuing a PhD.
When I am not in the lab, you will find me walking my chihuahua-mix rescue, Teton, around the neighborhood, in my garage tinkering on my 1989 BMW 325i, listening to all different genres of music, or in the mountains skiing. (I took a couple years off before college and ski patrolled).
